Mediterranean Chicken Gyro Bowl
A gyro bowl gives you the lemony, oregano-forward flavor of grilled chicken with the convenience of a grain bowl. Crisp cucumber, tomato, feta and a cool yogurt sauce add freshness around the warm chicken and rice, so the meal stays balanced rather than heavy.
Cook the chicken over fairly high heat to get browned edges, then let it rest before slicing. Assemble the cold toppings only after the chicken is done so they stay crisp.
A Good Gyro Bowl Needs Hot, Cool, Creamy and Crisp
- Lemon, oregano, garlic and paprika give the chicken a bright, savory profile without a complicated marinade.
- Rice provides the base while cucumber, tomato and red onion add crunch and freshness.
- Hummus and tzatziki bring two different creamy elements, so the bowl does not need a separate dressing.
- Feta adds a salty finish that ties the seasoned chicken and vegetables together.

- Top with tzatziki and feta and serve with lemon if desired.
Notes
Season the Chicken Before the Pan Is Hot
Olive oil, lemon, oregano, garlic and paprika should coat the chicken evenly before it reaches the skillet. Because the pieces are sliced, they cook quickly and do not need a long marinade to pick up flavor.
Give Each Bowl Contrast
Warm seasoned chicken and rice need cool vegetables to keep the bowl lively. Cucumber, tomato and red onion bring crunch and acidity while feta adds a salty finish.
Hummus and Tzatziki Do Different Jobs
Hummus gives the bowl richness and body; tzatziki adds cool cucumber-garlic freshness. Using both in smaller amounts creates more contrast than relying on one large scoop of sauce.
Pack Components Separately for Meal Prep
Keep chicken and rice together for reheating, and store cucumber, tomato, tzatziki and feta cold. Assemble after the warm components are reheated so the fresh side of the bowl stays fresh.
