Crispy Air Fryer Chickpeas
The difference between chewy chickpeas and genuinely crisp ones starts before they enter the air fryer. Moisture on the surface turns to steam, so drying canned chickpeas thoroughly gives them a much better chance to become crunchy.
Once crisp, they are more than a snack. Their toasted, nutty flavor and dry crunch make a good contrast in salads, soups and grain bowls. Season them simply with paprika and salt, or change the spices to match whatever you are serving.
The Difference Between Crisp Chickpeas and Chewy Ones
- Drying the chickpeas well creates a noticeably crisper result.
- They add crunch without breadcrumbs, croutons or deep frying.
- The seasoning can shift from smoky to spicy or herby very easily.
- A batch keeps well enough to use as a snack and a topping.
